If you’ve been to a Hy-Vee lately, you’ve likely heard shoppers being vocally assaulted by the self checkout stands and it turns out they’ve been attending therapy for it.

“I’m sorry I’m not using my Hy-Vee Perks Plus Rewards Card, but I’m really trying to. You just don’t give me enough time and that’s really what I need when I’m shopping. Sometimes I can’t be that shopper you want me to be,” said one therapy attendee we spoke with.

We reached out to Hy-Vee, but only received the following response from the local self checkout stand:

“HAVE YOU USED YOUR HY-VEE PERKS PLUS REWARDS CARD? HAVE YOU USED YOUR HY-VEE PERKS PLUS REWARDS CARD? HAVE YOU USED YOUR HY-VEE PERKS PLUS REWARDS CARD? HAVE YOU USED YOUR HY-VEE PERKS PLUS REWARDS CARD? HAVE YOU USED YOUR HY-VEE PERKS PLUS REWARDS CARD? HAVE YOU USED YOUR HY-VEE PERKS PLUS REWARDS CARD?” yelled a self checkout we interviewed.

Shoppers who do not use the self checkout options tend to leave stores more positively.

“I can’t believe shoppers choose to have a machine yell at them, when they can talk to a 16 year old kid who doesn’t want to be there. It’s almost like people just don’t like people anymore. Soon, people aren’t even going to go to the store anymore to shop and everything will be delivered to them via drones or something,” said one shopper we spoke with while waiting in line at Hy-Vee.

Tone down the aggressiveness on those self checkouts, Hy-Vee. I like being able to hear.
