With 2017 coming to an end, we look back at just how the city of Sioux Falls survived the additions of upscale boutiques opening on every single corner.

At a pace only matched by rabbit reproduction, upscale boutiques quickly took over the Sioux Falls shopping scene in 2017 and other small shops are definitely feeling it this Christmas.

“We’ve survived 388 nearby upscale boutiques opening this year alone.” said one small shop owner we spoke with.

The new Phillips Ave upscale hotel and boutique mall will surely add to this outstanding number and city officials couldn’t be more excited.

“Can you believe how quickly Sioux Falls has grown since the beginning of the year? We could always use more upscale boutiques, and 2017 proved just that. We’ve very excited!” said Mayor Mike Huether.

Many frustrated shop owners believe the upscale boutique opening is a fluke, and other do not. Some small shops we spoke with, who wish not to be named, believe that upscale boutiques gentrify the area immediately connected.

Most upscale boutiques will continue asking for credit lines upon customers entering store.
