It’s no surprise that cholesterol levels are on the rise in the United States, but those numbers are hitting closer to the heart since the Sioux Empire Fair has started.

“I love fair time! The deep fried Twinkies, the deep fried ice cream, just the overall fair atmosphere of people eating deep fried food makes me happy,” said one fair attendee.

Doctors in the Sioux Falls region remind fair-goers that eating deep fried desserts and fair food is generally bad for a person’s health.

“You’d be surprised how many people come in after eating deep fried Twinkies, have high cholesterol levels, and then get mad at us for telling them to take it easy on the Twinkies,” said one area doctor.

While some come for the food, others come for the entertainment fair week

“Seriously, I’m only here for the hot country guys that are performing. I can’t believe almost every headlining act is a hot, white, male country singer. It’s my dream come true,” said one woman waiting in line for the next generic country singer.

The Sioux Empire Fair goes until August 11th.
