In a shared effort around the Sioux Falls metro area, the citizens banded together to find just one dog all year long, and it couldn’t have come at a better time of year.

The Sioux Falls crime statistics show that there is an overwhelming drop during the holidays, so some citizens turn to searching for animals.

This year’s search and rescue came during freezing temperatures and deadly cold wind gusts, but the dog was finally found. Which brings the tally to: 1 dog found in 2017.

“How great of a story is it that our great citizens of this proud city finally found a stray animal. You know when the talk of the town is about a stray dog, we are doing something right as a city.” said Mayor Mike Huether.

Sioux Falls citizens aim to double that search and rescue record in 2018.

It is unknown whether or not the dog wanted to be found, or if it ran around because the owners tried to put an ugly sweater on it.
