Sioux Falls city council approved a deal earlier this evening that would put $20,000 of Monopoly money in the city coffers.

In addition to the $20,000 worth of Monopoly money, the construction company was also given exclusive rights to a brand new public/private construction project that is set to redefine the Sioux Falls downtown skyline.

While city council still isn’t sure about the conversion rate of MONO to USD, it seems as though they are happy with the use of this new currency.

“We’re very happy to be the first city to accept this new type of currency. It’s very forward-thinking of our city council and just shows how progressive Sioux Falls really is.” said Mayor Mike Huether.

The new building is set to break ground this spring after city council approved the new project earlier this year.

The Sioux Falls Headliner tried to pay a recent parking ticket with Monopoly money, but was declined by the Sioux Falls Police Department.
